Important Note: This approach discusses ChatGPT. That’s the system I use most frequently to generate content, do research, get feedback, analyze things, and access a whole bunch of information that I need to get things done and make decisions in my day-to-day life.

But this system is also useful in other models like Claude or Gemini. More and more generative AI models are becoming available, and we should all be able to use the ones we like the best, without getting locked into anyone’s system. While I can’t make guarantees for every model available now or in the future, if you understand these principles and are comfortable using them, you’re going to be pretty well equipped to generate some very cool content from here on out. It’s going to sound like you. It’s going to have your voice, your style, your tone, your sensibilities. It will be very much like you from the get-go. All that remains is for you to do the editing on it, which you will absolutely positively need to do. AI should never be left to its own devices, especially when it’s speaking for you. Every publisher has a small army of editors to work on the books of even the most famous authors. So, think of yourself as the chief editor of your own publishing company, and let’s get started cranking out some great content!

Introduction to Creating Custom Content with AI

Transcript

One of the big promises of AI, or artificial intelligence, is that it can create tons of content. It’s starting to be able to produce amazing video, and it can also produce amazing pictures – although the end product can be inconsistent – But the main area where AI seems to excel right now is Text.

Everybody loves the idea of being able to produce endless streams of content without tying up hours of every day. A lot of people still build their brand with posting, and a lot of people feel like they need to have a constant presence out there and social media in order to be recognized and established.

So the idea that an artificial intelligence application can, crank out all the pieces you need in minutes, versus hours, hugely enticing. And rightfully so. I’m pretty excited about it, myself.

There are many many apps that can create AI generated text from a properly formed prompt. The quality tends to vary, and depending on the application, it can really be dependent on the prompts provided.

In terms of the models available to us, particularly ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, they can also be used to generate text. some are better than others, and depending how you use them, some are downright amazing.

The thing is, with so many people creating content with AI, the world is getting flooded with obviously artificial writing, much of it that sounds the same as everybody else, and some of which that’s downright awful.

Additionally, certain platforms where people are hoping to post their flood of automatically generated content are starting to screen content and reject postings that can clearly be flagged as AI. There are also applications that are used to detect AI, although what people do with the results isn’t 100% predictable.

Maybe people care the content is AI generated, maybe they don’t. Maybe the penalize it, maybe they don’t. The whole dynamic is shifting and it seems like every day there’s something new happening … so that the whole world of AI generated content is very much moving target. We’re learning as we go along.

When it comes to generating content, it’s tempting to think that an AI program can produce an ample supply of seemingly infinite words. After all, it’s artificial intelligence, right? You can get words that are SEO optimized, that are intelligent and interesting and tailor made to engage and convert your audience.

But why do you want all that content? What’s it going to be used for? Is it just window dressing, or is it an actual tool to establish and refine your own personal and professional brand?

Don’t you want your writing to reflect who you are? Don’t you want people to find out who you are, what your personality is, what your own personal brand is, based on what they read about you? How can they do that, if you’re having a machine do everything for you?

So, as tempting as it may be to think that the great AI machine in the sky can produce a nonstop stream a blog posts, emails, social media status reports, and more, the simple fact is, relying too much on that machine can cost you.

At best, you can get dinged by the content gods. At worst, you’ll have a muddled message, a murky brand, and your credibility – and impact – will suffer as a result.

I know, it seems unfair. And it is. Why would the universe dangle this glorious invention of artificial intelligence in front of us, make so many grand promises, and then just dash our hopes before we even get started?

Well, there might actually be a way to have the best of both worlds. Kind of. Because AI really does work best when it’s given very clear direction. And if you give it certain kinds of very clear direction, you can actually make it represent you with an accuracy that’s a little unnerving.

Just like all those head shots and avatars, generated from 15 selfies from every possible angle, you can have AI generated content that is trained to sound like you. It’s not you… but it could be… at least, to the untrained eye. And if you learn how to do it right, you might actually be able to save all that time and produce quality content that truly represents your brand.

So, All is not lost. There is still a chance. You just have to understand how to do it.

Let’s start teaching you how.
